1. Recalls the travels of the founders (Chinese Jesuit seminarians during the Red Revolution) from China to the Philippines.
2. Also signifies the Johnian motto – duc in altum, which means “plunge into the deep”.

The original name of St. John’s Institute
Hua means “magnificent”, splendid, the abbreviation for China
Ming means “bright” – as opposed to dark, clear, wise
